The thing that I like about Benny Gold is the simplicity of the logo and that cleanness that the image has on the ballers and T’s. This Graphic Designer based around San Fran is defiantly makin lots of good stuff under his name. He’s been doin stuff for HUF and lots of other companies like Ipath and Mash. I ain’t sittin’ here tellin you about Santogold’s cd…I mean its been on so much stuff that pretty much everyone has heard it somewhere. Shred flicks, commercials, in peoples cars…but stuff I didn’t know about the cd…but maybe you did…but it goes a little something like this…
The production was done between Santi White and John Hill…both of whom was part of the band Stiffed, but more importantly now a Shitake Monkey. John Hill aka Johnny Rodeo is one of the three memebers of the band, which you would know about if you read the article on Shitake Monkey that I wrote a while back…but actually you wouldn’t know cause now that I think about it, I mentioned nothing about Johnny Rodeo working with Santogold…I just found out about it…
I love the song “I’m A Lady”. It totally reminds me of the Pixies. But hey…I didn’t know Trouble Andrew was in that…damn…seriously, so many shred flicks I turn on has his songs in it, or that scene where he is singing with that super tattered shirt…you know…the one thats like a sleeveless that cuts down his whole side…ya…that one…that Andrew…just troublely…
I think I heard their stuff on a Shred Flick some time back, and I remember liking it and then getting more of their stuff…but much like Conor Oberst’s band Desaparecidos, I always forgot the name when I roll into a record store…As if I can remember that…I don’t even know how to say it properly let alone spell it…
Its like “Hey I’m looking for a cd…its uh…Los…Los something…Los Lobos?…Ya…no…Los Del Rio!!! Ya, that’s it! Los Del Rio Please!!” As a result of these mistakes in search of Los Campesinos!, I’ve ended up with 10 Macarena cd’s. Damn it!!
Their latest cd was released sometime late October as a limited release. I love getting cd’s with bonus cd’s or DVD’s in it. It makes me real happy. I’ll be honest and say that I don’t ever watch those bonus disks, but its nice to get a little some’n some’n with your purchase nahmean’. What would be nicer is if it came with a chocolate cd. Mmmmmmm!! This cd comes with a self made doc DVD.
It also includes a 30 plus page ‘zine, including the lyrics and contributions by Xiu Xiu, Grandaddy, Tender Forever, Menomena, Parenthetical Girls and Paul Heaton. Ooooooooo! Nice!

I must say Pharrell has some good dance moves in this one…lots of smacking around of the ass…its true that Pharrell and the Teriyaki Boyz (Verbal, Wise, Ryo-Z, llmari) look really small amidst all these butts, and that because they found real 40ft tall women to be in the video…their hard to find, but their around as you can see in the video. Let me see you work that!!
