Ride’n Wif Mista Kay! Mos Def- “The Ecstatic”

This week I got Mos up in my whip. It’s kinda funny that the last weeks Ride’n Wif Mista Kay featured DOOM, another artist that dropped off the rap radar as far as releasing new material. It was something like 4 years since DOOM dropped an album and he came back like he never left the scene. Mos Def, even though he dropped albums fairly consistently during the past bit, the quality as we know wasn’t all up to Mos par nahmean’. Some say it was the record label agreement or whatever…everyones got their own theory’s…but I think he came back strong with this one
This one has lots of great moments in it. Lots of interesting samples and passages like where Mos is singing…ya, thats one of the big things. He is sing’n a lot in this album…not to say that’s a bad thing but the lines gets stuck in your head. Also a lot of these songs sound like they came out of a jam sesh and then put it on the album. I ain’t talk’n like its sloppy or nothin, just sayin like the form and style is real free-like. Taking all things into consideration, you can’t deny the fact that Mos is one powerful dude and his lines are ill and filled with meaning. All in all, I do enjoy this album and I especially like “Workers Comp” and “Roses”. I mean how can you not like it…really?…its Mos!
